Plants make people happy

Do you remember the simple joy of growing Cress seeds in an egg cup as a child?

We truly believe that plants make people happy (but we would think that, right?) There is something primal about them, they offer us a connection with nature that can bring calm and excitement to our lives all at the same time. There’s nothing like the buzz you get from checking on your garden during spring & summer to see what’s sprouting up.

According to a study by Lenor in 2017, 60% of people said the fragrance that made them happiest was their garden. Therapists are now prescribing gardening for depression and it’s very easy to see why. It gets you outside, forms a connection with nature and gives you a sense of purpose, not to mention, achievement. Successfully caring for plants is very rewarding. Plants know no boundaries; they are accessible to everyone, no matter the size and shape of your garden (you don’t even need to own a garden). They offer us a simple way to reconnect with nature, calm a busy mind and focus on the moment.

Plants can completely transform a space, whether it’s your garden or your windowsill. Not everyone is in a position to own a pet but anyone can grow and care for a plant.

**WARNING** plants can become addictive!

Here are just some of the reasons why we love plants:

• Beauty and scent
• Looking after plants is a great hobby (learning new things, keeping our brains active promotes endorphins which as everyone knows…makes us happy)
• Give back to the planet – They absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen
• They offer us sanctuary away from a stressful world
• Satisfaction of nurturing something
• They create a habitat for wildlife
• A connection with nature

We are all, of course, plant mad here at the Big Plant Nursery so why not pop down and see how we can help.

We are open seven days a week and have plants of every shape and size. If you would like to find out more about different types of plants and how they could enhance your garden <click here>
