Trees absorb carbon and release oxygen. Everyone can agree that this is pretty important but there are lesser known amazing things that trees do.

Did you know that trees…

  • Remove carbon from the atmosphere therefore reducing the effects of global warming <find out more>
  • Provide food, protection and homes for birds & mammals
  • Naturally clean pollutants out of the soil and either store them in their root systems or convert them into less toxic substances
  • Absorb surface water therefore reducing flooding
Can you imagine a world without trees?

Trees contribute to their environment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, climate amelioration, conserving water, preserving soil, and supporting wildlife. During the process of photosynthesis, trees take in carbon dioxide and produce the oxygen we breathe.

Long-living native species such as oak and maple are effective at storing carbon dioxide, according to The Woodland Trust.

Smaller options for the garden are:

  • Corylus avellana (Hazel)
  • Prunus spinosa (Blackthorn)
  • Malus (Crab Apple)
  • Salix caprea (Goat Willow)
