Also known as the chocolate vine for its fragrant flowers, Akebia quinata is an unusual climber with bright green semi-evergreen leaves. Fragrant vanilla hinted reddish-purple flowers are sometimes followed by purple fruits.
This dainty climber will need pruning, support and tying in to trellises and walls to keep in shape.
When tied in this climber will cope with exposed or sheltered locations. In warmer, sheltered climates the leaves may stay on all winter.
Grows well in most soil types which are moist and well drained.
Full sun or partial shade.
Final Height: 8-12 metres when trained.
