With all the qualities of its parent, the native Acer campestre, this cultivar’s new growth is bright crimson and turns to a deep green as the season progresses. The display continues into autumn when the leaves turn yellow and orange before they finally fall after about 8 months. Uniquely, there are few other trees of native origin which offer such interest in their contrasting foliage.
Tolerant of most soil types it does prefer rich, well drained soils and is good for drought, air pollution and soil compaction which makes it one of the best ornamental native trees.
Owing to its native origin this tree is a good host to insects and birds.
