Also known as Erman’s Birch, this species like other Birch has attractive bark, which peels and is creamy in colour tinged with pink. The light bright green, small heart shaped leaves are one of the first to emerge in the spring and the first to fall in the autumn, turning a bright and clear yellow before they fall.
If the central leader is retained, as it matures the tree will become a neat, conical, pyramidal shape making it a wonderful urban tree as it requires very little maintenance and it also tolerates reflective heat and light. Betula ermanii is effective for any project which requires winter interest or architectural structure. It can be planted as a single specimen and in groups to show off the delicate colours of the bark.
An elegant and vigorous medium to large tree, a consistent performer and will tolerate most soil types.
Mature height: 12-17m
