Description
Robinia pseudoacacia ‘Bessoniana’, known as Thornless False Acacia, is perhaps the best of all the Robinia cultivars.
Soft, attractive, green leaves that emerge late in spring, thornless stems and smattering of white flower make this tree a contender.
Like all Robinia it can develop into a tangled mess over time with its brittle limbs susceptible to breaking. With this in mind do not plant in windy sites.
Robinia pseudoacacia ‘Bessoniana’ is not suitable for small gardens as it is budded onto Robinia pseudoacacia rootstock that can sucker. They prefer a more sheltered position, and are a good option for driveways and street planting as they tolerate pollution.
