Morus nigra ‘Chelsea’ (syn. King James)
Commonly known as the Black Mulberry, is a slow-growing, deciduous tree valued for its characterful form, large heart-shaped leaves and delicious dark fruits. In late spring, inconspicuous flowers appear, followed by juicy black-purple mulberries in summer, prized for eating fresh or using in preserves. Grow in a sunny, sheltered position and well-drained soil. Ideal for gardens and orchards, Morus nigra is long-lived and full of character. At maturity, it typically reaches 3-8 metres in height forming a broad, rounded canopy and providing seasonal interest.
