Our story…

Glenn and Mark have been designing, building and maintaining gardens together since 1989 after meeting at school (many moons ago).

After leaving school they both came to realise their shared passion for garden design & horticulture, so they decided to combine Glenn’s entrepreneurial spirit and Mark’s creative flair as a photographer to set up Creative Landscape Co.

They started from a humble warehouse in Caversham, Berkshire before upgrading to a timber shed! However, the pair were ambitious and focused on providing great service, quality products and sharing their horticultural knowledge. Core values that both companies retain to this day.

In 2001 after winning their first UK National Landscape award and moving the business to its current location in Twyford, Glenn & Mark were able to develop and nurture their services to create a plant nursery with a difference. They wanted to fill the inspirational gardens they were creating with unique, top-quality plants that weren’t readily available at the local Garden Centres.

The Big Plant Nursery is rooted in this desire and has become a destination for high quality, big, beautiful plants for every garden. A plant nursery genuinely backed up with horticultural knowledge and years of experience designing and building domestic gardens. Large plants, specimen trees and instant screening solutions are at the heart of The Big Plant Nursery. It’s all in the name.

The plants you see in the nursery are plants we use week in week out in the gardens we design and create.

Although now on a much larger scale, everything they do today, from building award winning gardens for RHS Chelsea Flower Show to selling plants from the nursery, is done with the same honesty, vigour and enthusiasm of those two young friends with little more than a timber shed and a dream.

In March 2021 Creative Landscape Co. formed an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) in March 2021.

Creative Landscape Co. employees, which include The Big Plant Nursery, now have a vested interest in the day to day running of and future of the business.

Championed by leading department store John Lewis, EOTs boast increased levels of staff productivity and performance. Whilst EOTs are growing in popularity, Creative Landscape Co. are the first Landscape Design/Garden Centre to adopt this staff ownership model.

More and more businesses are moving towards EOTs to maintain company legacy by putting the future of the business in the hands of its valued employees who understand its ethos and customer relationships. The move ensures security for employees and longevity for the business by attracting and retaining high quality staff.

This is an exciting new chapter for the Creative Landscape Co. group. We would like to thank our staff and customers for their ongoing support and loyalty.
