Commonly known as the Chinese Holly, is a bold, evergreen shrub or small tree valued for its glossy, spiny foliage and strong architectural form. The dark green leaves provide year-round structure and interest. In spring, small white flowers appear, followed on female plants by bright red berries in autumn and winter, which are highly decorative and attractive to birds. Ideal as a specimen plant, it thrives in full sun or partial shade and prefers moist but well-drained soil.
