Description

Prunus ‘Kiku-shidare-zakura’ is a very well known, weeping variety of Cherry blossom tree.
Sometimes also known as Prunus ‘Cheals Weeping’. This lovely tree produces soft pink frilly double flowers in spring, followed by coppery green foliage that turns deeper green as spring moves into summer. Autumn time brings the orange-red foliage colour.
As the name suggests, Prunus ‘Cheals Weeping’ is notable for its trailing crown that weeps gently to the ground. Our trees begin to weep over at around 2.5-3m tall, making this tree a little smaller in height than other cherries.
Like most cherries this Prunus prefers to be planted in a free draining soil, it will not tolerate having wet feet. If you are on a heavy clay soil, it may be best to opt for a Malus variety instead.
This pretty little tree does not grow very tall at maturity, it can however spread laterally, so when planting it is recommended to leave plenty of space. Ideal for architectural structure, this specimen can be used in the centre of a lawn, or as part of a colourful border.
This tree is good for bees and other pollinators.
Mature Height: 3-5m.
