Description
Prunus ‘Sunset Boulevard’ came from Belgium in the late 1980’s with the purpose of being used in urban environments.
Large, single white flowers, tinged with pink edges, offer a pretty soft colour to contrast beautifully with the emerging coppery foliage. Held on the tree in pairs maximises the impact of the flowers and in ideal sites these can hold onto the tree for much longer than other cherries.
Coppery foliage turns to green through summer and autumn brings the bright golden yellow colour. Leaves are elliptical and medium sized for a cherry.
Prunus ‘Sunset Boulevard’ has been well used as a street tree in the UK due to its compact and tidy shaped crown. It has all the features to make a fabulous garden tree.
Prefers a well-drained soil and will not enjoy having wet feet.
It is tough, strong growing tree, tidy in shape with year-round interest, it broadens with age to a more oval shape.
This tree is good for bees and other pollinators.
