Description

Fremontodendron ‘California Glory’ is a fast growing, large, vigorous, evergreen shrub with rounded, dark green leaves and bright yellow flowers which appear in spring and flower all through summer into early autumn.
Also known as the flannel bush it is a shrub but can be used as a climber when trained up a trellis on or a fence.
Fremontodendron is a charming addition to particularly sunny sites when creating a Mediterranean scheme and particularly attractive to butterflies making it a worthy choice in wildlife gardens too.
This shrub is in pruning group 1, they require little or no pruning and can be spoiled by harder pruning. Flowers appear on the previous or current year’s growth. Lightly prune in late winter or early spring and after pruning, mulch and feed.
Needs sheltered full sun.
Tolerates any soil condition as long as it’s moist and well drained.
Final height: 4-8m tall, 2.5-4m wide.
